Staff Development Opportunity for Learning ProvidersLet’s TWIST in conjunction with our national partnership – JIVE Partners - are offering an opportunity for staff to participate in one day events focusing on best practice in recruitment and retention with an overall aim of raising awareness to the needs of women students and how lecturers can meet those needs. As a result of European Social Fund funding, we are able to offer lecturers/trainers from colleges, universities, private and work based providers, the engineering, construction and technology sectors the opportunity of attending a free training events. For women and girls to be successfully recruited and retained in these areas where they are in a minority, they have to be supported, coached and encouraged. Most trainers of engineering, construction and technology subjects are used to dealing with groups of male trainees; they often come from a similar background and talk the same ‘language’. Trainers can often feel ill-equipped to deal with the additional encouragement women may need when training in these areas from recruitment through to managing diversity on site in the classroom or workshop. Let’s TWIST are offering a unique opportunity to participate in a one day event focusing on best practice in recruitment and retention with an overall aim of raising awareness to the training needs of women students and how trainers can meet those needs. Let’s TWIST trainers come from a background of working and teaching in the engineering and construction sectors. This practically-based staff development programme has been supported by the CITB and the Learning and Skills Development Agency. Our trainers are highly experienced in equity and diversity training, most coming from a background in the engineering and construction sectors. The staff development programme has been supported by the CITB and the Learning and Skills Development Agency and used in many educational organisations throughout the country and is a useful tool to spread good ideas between organisations and advise on useful resources. These are some of the comments from staff attending the training . ''Great. I have some good ideas to take back to the college. Discussions with yourself and other colleagues have given me a greater enthusiasm for this area of work.'' Excellent training day, very informative " Visit the JIVE website for more information of the staff development opportunities. |
